Ismaïla Femi Kuti Bertie's baby

Ismaïla Fousseni
was one of the merchants we met in the Artisan Alley. He got a kick out of teaching Brian how to play the telena, a simple precussion instrument most Togolese learn as children.

Femi Kuti
performed at the French Cultural Center. His deceased Nigerian father, Fela, was to Nigeria what Marley was to Jamaica. Femi Kuti was a great showman and his musicians and dancers were wonderful!

Bertie's Baby
was the only amusing thing about the Ride from Hell (see journal, day 12) in Bohicon, Benin. The baby sat with me in the back while her mother sat in the front, squashed up against the windshield with Brian.
